Reciprocal with Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC) and East Cowes Sailing Club (ECSC)

Members might be interested in having more information about the reciprocal arrangement that has been established with our friends at Cowes Corinthian yacht Club and East Cowes Sailing Club, which is referred to in the December 2007 Newsletter.

What this means in practice is that the three organisations are going to try and work together in a way that benefits them and all their members.  In particular, the following areas of activity are being looked at:

Racing

We plan to open up events to members of each organisation, specifically ECSC Thursday evening cruiser racing, MMA Wednesday evening dinghy racing, and the CCYC Autumn series. We are also looking if practicable to sponsor a new dinghy class for racing on the Medina..

Cruising

We encourage CCYC and MMA members to support the “Sail the Wight” fund raising event for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, organised by ECSC, which this year is being held on Saturday 14th June 2008, and which will be followed by a jolly social function on the ECSC hard, with BBQ etc. We are also looking to work together on cruising rallies.

Each of us is planning to organise two rallies this year, liaising on date and venues to give a good programme overall for members of all three organisations.  Details should appear in our next Newsletter and/or will be available at our April AGM.

Social

ECSC and MMA members can now use the CCYC bar on production of their membership cards.
Bar opening times are:-
Monday to Thursday 7.00 pm to 11.00 pm (Thursday is currently on a trial 5.00 pm opening)
Friday and Saturday 11.00 am to 11.00 pm.
Sunday 12.00 noon to 10.30 pm.

Both ECSC and MMA will look to use CCYC for social events (note that the MMA held their annual dinner at CCYC on 17th November – very successfully).  We are also planning to an annual bar games event involving darts, pool, shove ha’penny, possibly even skittles, probably some time in the Spring.

Facilities

We plan to open up the use of all of the three organisations’ facilities to members generally at member rates if practicable.

Publicity

We plan to circulate at least one joint newsletter per annum (around springtime).  We have also set up links to each of the three web sites, so please go and have a look at what CCYC ECSC have to offer.  We will also prepare a County Press notice about the reciprocal arrangement once firmer plans are in place for events etc.

Other

We hope to run at least one joint boat jumble (car boot style) annually.  We also plan to work together as a “pressure group” on harbour developments, harbour mooring issues etc.  And, ambitiously, we hope to eventually organise an annual regatta somewhere on the Medina, a “fun for all” event.  So, watch this space!
